For the first time in decades, possibly since the anti-Vietnam War and environmental movements, the left wing has led the center of the Democratic Party in a new political direction on a major issue — one sharply critical of the Israeli government, impatient with the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and increasingly willing to use American leverage to curb Israel’s military plans.
In recent weeks, Democratic leaders have begun inching closer to the progressive view that it is against U.S. interests to continue sending unconditional U.S. military aid to Mr. Netanyahu’s government in an asymmetrical war that has killed thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza. And they have recognized that anger among Democratic voters — especially young voters — over the U.S. role in Gaza is a serious threat to Mr. Biden’s re-election that cannot be ignored.
On Israel, the pressure from the left has been clear: protests by young Americans and many others against the American role in the conflict; an “uncommitted” movement that led thousands of Democrats to cast protest ballots instead of voting for Mr. Biden, especially in Michigan, a key swing state; and an intense, behind-the-scenes lobbying effort at the White House and in Congress by progressive Democrats.
There is no democracy in this country. Our government and politicians fund wars to kill and destroy for the benefit of this nations' billionaires at the expense of the rest of us.
One of the main things that's changed is that it's now become acceptable, even fashionable, for supporters, allies and spokespeople of our country's most dangerous enemies claim that their views are pro-America while undermining our democracy.
There was a time when being against our Constitution and against honest governing was not a point of pride. Now that's gone mainstream.
The populists in the US kept them out of WWII for the first two years - leaving the fighting to be done by Europeans and the British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia, etc.). Let's hope if things go completely sideways this time, the US won't sit idly by because of the authoritarian, Putin-apologist, populists of today.
You don't have to be "pro Palestinian" to be against the murder of Palestinian civilians. The fight between Arabs and Israelis has been going on for over 60 years and will continue for who knows how many more years. But there should be an agreement to avoid inhumane actions. There is not on either side. So the rest of the world is forced to watch. Netanyahu is a large part of he problem but even without him, there doesn't seem to be a solution. Two sides of a terrible fight, many good people at the mercy of the bad ones

Netanyahu played politics in America, siding with Republicans and even being rude to Obama. He who plays with fire . . .
If Israel wants to have relations with us and receive our support it need not do our bidding, but it has to hear our views.

Netanyahu is to Israel what Trump is to the United States. Think about it.
